Ishikiri oden is an oden of good luck
Preserving and passing on the taste that has been enjoyed since the company's founding
to the blessings of the Ishikiri-Surugi Shrine for the healing of illness
Oden with a prayer for good health

The "Kantō-ni-style" taste of sweet and strong seasoning which has been loved by the locals for a long time.

Oden is often made with local ingredients. Ishikiri no Oden” contains mainly light ingredients such as potatoes, daikon radish, eggs, and fish paste, because the area is located in the mountains and is far from both the sea and farms.
The balance of the flavor of these light ingredients results in a sweet, thick “Kanto nimono seasoning,” which is the exact opposite of the flavor of oden in the Kansai region, where thin, light, and clear soup stock is the norm.
No fillets⁉
Oden of good luck

One of the characteristics of Ishikiri no Oden is that it contains no fish fillets.
Beef tendon and octopus legs are used, but no fish fillets are added. This has to do with the belief in the Ishikiri Tsurugi Shrine and its local origin.
Ishikiri-tsurugi Shrine has long been worshipped as the god of “denbo,” which in Osaka dialect means “something made of wood. The shrine is especially visited by people who wish to be healed from illness.
In order to wish for the health of worshippers, oden was created using easily digestible ingredients that are easy on the body and do not remind people of the act of “cutting”.
This oden is a local delicacy that has long been loved by the people of Ishikiri, who cherish this good omen.
Oden cooked in a round pot that takes a lot of time and effort

Oden is often associated with a square pot with the ingredients arranged in an organized manner, but Ishikiri's Oden is characterized by the use of a large round pot at all of its restaurants in the region.
By simmering the ingredients slowly in this round pot, the flavor of the ingredients melds well together, creating a unique Ishikiri flavor.
Cooking in a round pot requires a great deal of time and effort to control the heat and to make sure the ingredients do not fall apart, so it is often avoided in other regions. Ishikiri, however, spares no effort and continues to preserve the “Ishikiri taste,” in which the flavors of the ingredients mingle together.
Ishikiri oden has a gentle flavor that will soothe your tired body after visiting the Ishikiri Tsurugi Shrine or walking along the shopping street. It is a local specialty that brings back the nostalgia and atmosphere of the old days.
A power food that has been enjoyed for many years.
Ishikiri-tsurugi Shrine is famous in the Kansai region as the “god of diseases” and is visited by many worshippers who wish to be cured of their illnesses.
The pilgrimage route was once a busy side trip to Koyasan, and over its long history, the shrine has flourished as a tourist destination, with inns, stores, and restaurants lining the streets.
In addition, it has developed into a place of healing that attracts many visitors due to its easy accessibility, including the Kintetsu Railway and subway lines that opened more than 100 years ago, as well as expressways.
Our restaurant “Suzuya” was established at the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912) and continues to serve oden as the oldest restaurant serving local oden in the area.
The whole town has long been familiar with oden with a strong “Kanto ni-style” flavor.
We have been serving oden as a symbol of good fortune to those who wish to be healed of their illnesses, and have kept the same taste for more than 100 years, as a symbol of the blessings of the Ishikiri-Surugi Shrine.
It has long been loved as “power food” by visitors to the town, and has become an “essential local iconic dish” that condenses the local flavor.
Each restaurant has its own unique flavor, so it is one of the pleasures of strolling around Ishikiri to taste the different flavors of each restaurant. You can also take out or eat outside of the restaurant (both are available at our restaurant). Ishikiri Oden” is a taste that can only be enjoyed here. The taste is further enhanced when you enjoy it with a local flavor. Please try it when you visit Ishikiri!
